The idea started as a sketch on paper, and a 3D model out of sticks. Then decorated the festival grounds. We reimagined tensile structures and combined several of them to create one large bamboo structure that blends well into the stunning landscape of Boomland. Inspired by oceanic creatures, the overlapping spine of the temple provides much needed shade and ventilation for the intense Portuguese summer climate.
The negative triangular spaces between the roof’s geometry serve as sky lights, whilst housing the inverted bamboo tripods that form the core structure.
Built with the incredible Brazilian team of Surya Eco Design out of 15-year-old reused poles, this structure confirms that bamboo lends itself to circular design of temporary architecture.
