Boom requested a place for the quieter half of the festival. We designed a pavilion for yoga, wellbeing, and ecstatic dance: calm at its centre, facing the lakeside sunset.
Starting as a sketch on paper, and a 3D model out of sticks. Then build on the festival grounds. Tensile techniques created one large bamboo structure that blends into the landscape of Boomland. Inspired by oceanic creatures, the overlapping spine of the temple provides much needed shade and ventilation for the intense Portuguese heat.
The negative triangular spaces between the roof’s geometry serve as sky lights, whilst housing the inverted bamboo tripods that form the core structure.
Built with the Brazilian team of Surya Eco Design out of 15-year-old reused poles, this structure confirms that bamboo lends itself to circular design of temporary architecture.
