IJmuiden is raw and unpolished, and Basecamp doesn't argue with it. The tiny house eco resort sits right behind the dunes, matching the honesty of the surrounding beach town. Within it, we designed a playful structure and gathering hub.
The challenge was to bring life to the rugged aesthetic of the space, and create a layer of architecture extending outwards from the iconic Domestikator sculpture from Atelier van Lieshout. Our architectural intervention is now the central hub of the resort, constructed entirely from second-life materials and repurposed furniture.
Taking inspiration from the pitched-roof forms of the on-site tiny houses.
A modular timber frame structure is cross-braced with steel cabling. This creates elevated platforms extending outwards from the sculpture with a drawbridge and post. Steel sherpa connectors allow for complete demountability.
