What I've learned about transformation design thus far #37
I strongly believe that transcendence is not an escape from the world but a deeper participation in it. And that this is frequently misunderstood or judged upon. The transcendent is often imagined as somewhere else, heaven, another realm, a dimension beyond ordinary reality. But those who have experienced transcendence suggest something different: not going elsewhere but being here more fully, seeing what is always present but usually obscured.
Mystics of every tradition speak of this. The Zen master Dōgen: “To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things.” The Christian mystic Meister Eckhart: “The eye through which I see God is the same eye through which God sees me.” The Sufi poet Rumi: “You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”
