Boom, there it is: the living proof that bamboo is booming, even in Europe! At over 600m2, our first bamboo structure made for stunning Boom Festival is Europe’s largest bamboo pole construction to date.

An idea that started as a simple sketch on paper has now hit the festival grounds. We reimagined tensile structures and combined several of them to create one large bamboo structure that blends well into the stunning landscape of Boomland. Inspired by oceanic creatures, the overlapping spine of the temple provides much needed shade and ventilation for the intense Portuguese summer climate.

The negative triangular spaces between the roof’s geometry serve as sky lights, whilst housing the inverted bamboo tripods that form the core structure. Built with the incredible Brazilian team of Surya Eco Design out of 15-year-old reused poles, this structure confirms that bamboo lends itself to circular design of temporary architecture. Probably, it will not even be that temporary, as the festival organization intends to reuse the structure for its next editions.
