Few models in psychology have earned the cultural permanence of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. His ‘pyramid’, with physiological necessities at its base, ascending through safety, belonging, and esteem to self-actualisation at its peak, was a recurring touchstone in the strategy lectures I attended while studying Arts Management at the Utrecht School of the Arts.
