A memorable experience is encoded in memory with particular vividness. The stunning view, the exquisite meal, the moment of unexpected delight. These create strong memories. Neuroscience explains why: novelty, emotional intensity, and personal significance all contribute to enhanced memory formation. The experience stands out against the backdrop of ordinary life.

A transformative experience does something more. It changes the one who remembers. The person after is different from the person before in how they see themselves, what they believe, and how they behave. The experience rewrites ‘the software’, it changes identity.
